KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) has welcomed the proposal by the Royal Malaysian Police to curb the “Mat Rempit” menace by seizing their motorcycles.
Its vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said under current law an illegal racer would only face action for dangerous driving.
“The MCPF welcomes the proposal to introduce a special section for illegal motorcycle racers, which includes seizure of their motorcycles,” he said in a statement here today.
Lee suggested that youths caught taking part in illegal motorcycle racing to also be sentenced to perform up to 100 hours of community service. — Bernama
