KUANTAN: The police will continue to work closely with non-governmental organisations to combat crime more effectively, acting state deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm II Datuk Ahmad Nadzer Nordin said.
Citing the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCP) as an example, he said the organisation served as a bridge to link the authorities with the people.
“MCPF plays a very important role in helping us to fight and prevent crime and unhealthy activities.
“Besides, other initiatives such as safe neighbourhood schemes can also help keep the areas safe and conducive,” he said after launching the month-long crime prevention campaign at Berjaya Megamall here recently.
Also present were state MCPF chairman Datuk Johnny Ch’ng Ewe Gee, state Unity and National Integration Department deputy director Fairojibanu Zainal Abidin and state deputy CID chief Supt Mohd Haris Daud.
SAC Ahmad Nadzer said the launch of the campaign was timely as the country was facing trying times due to the present economic situation.
He said the MCPF provided an avenue for the public to be involved directly with the authorities to combat crime.
“I hope these efforts will continue,” he said, adding that more people should be equipped with knowledge on crime prevention and how to react during an emergency.
Meanwhile, Ch’ng said the public should work closely with the police to help reduce the crime index nationwide.
He said the people could act as the eyes and ears for the police so that more cases could be solved.
“We must remember that crime prevention is the responsibility of all parties.
“Let’s work together to make our neighbourhoods safe and harmonious places to live in,” he said.
Ch’ng said the foundation would organise more programmes and activities to involve students and youths as they were more vulnerable to unhealthy elements. |
