Safe City Initiative
 |
“A world without crime may not be achievable but efforts to make cities safer to live in have borne fruits?"
Safe City Initiative is the brainchild of one of MCPF Exco members, Datin Seri Dr. Halimaton Saadiah bte Hashim, who is also the Director of Town and Country Planning Selangor.
The idea makes its first debut on June 2, 1998 during MCPF Exco Meeting and after much research and discussion, was launched on October 26, 1998. The first area chosen was Bangsar.

Outlook
The decision by MCPF to adopt for the implementation of the 'safe city initiative?represents a very significant contribution by a non-government organization towards the establishment of a Malaysian initiative, other than through law and order, in regards to crime prevention.
What is Safe City Initiative?
The Safe City Concept is a project designed to create a safe living environment, minimizing the opportunities for crime. It encourages partnership between the police, private sectors, professionals, and environmental designers.
It gathers all relevant parties such as planners and architects, developers, voluntary organizations, local authorities and residents to work in partnership and implement initiatives for crime prevention.
What is even more significant is the fact that our safe city initiative gathers all relevant parties to custom design solutions to existing problems and to anticipate and prepare for solutions to safety issues within the locality.
It has been established that the fear of crime is as serious as crime itself. The use of environmental psychology and environmental design can contribute substantially towards eliminating the fear of crime and reduce crime occurrences.
However, such measures are only to complement policing and law enforcement, which are still required for crime deterrence.
The MCPF has decided to put into implementation its safe city initiative concept.
